Huggles my new Ishida icon.  Seriously, who didn't watch episode 110 and go "damn, Ishida needs to go bare-chested more often?"

And speaking of bare-chested.....

God damn, I love this show.  It has everything I love.  Japanese history, political intrigue (well, I don't love this aspect that much, I just love a good plot) a bit of the supernatural, and of course, bishie samurais.  The last two episodes have been spectacular.  We're starting to see through some of Akidzuki's brooding bishie wall of angst.  He actually showed emotion in episode 10, so much so, that it almost moved me to tears.  I didn't think anything could possibly top that.  Well, the writers rewarded us once again by keeping Akidzuki topless for 95% of his screen time for this episode.....*squee*  I decided to share some caps with the y'all out there.  Watch this show!  You will not be disappointed.

I received a very nice email from a fan of "Hold Your Light" over the weekend.  While I am always happy to hear from fans, and this was no exception, there was one thing mentioned that did trouble me a bit.  This person complimented me on being "one of the few writers out there who pays attention to grammar and spelling."  Are other writers out there that lazy?  Is it that much of an effort to use the most basic of spellchecking programs out there?  I read a lot of fanfics out there on different sites and the consensus would seem that, yes, the authors seem to be too lazy.  If the author mentions that English is not their first language, I'm always willing to give a pass on some of the grammar mistakes, but spelling?  Come on.  Take some pride in what you write, enough to want it to be the best you can make it.   And for crying out loud, stop with the netspeak!  Nothing will make me hit the back button on a story faster than someone who uses netspeak as part of their story.   And age is not an excuse.  If the writer says, "well, I'm only 14" that doesn't give you a right to ignore the rules.  I went to school just the same as everyone else and I'm pretty sure that by 14 I knew how to structure a sentence correctly. *Sigh*  I guess this is why good fanfic authors are so hard to find.

And I'm working on P&C, really, I am!

24 days to go!

I don't udnerstand what English teachers are teaching these days. Good grammar seems nearly extinct. If you dare criticize posters on their bad habits, you're scorned as a grammar snob. I don't understand why people who should know better end up writing like freaking idiots online - on purpose! Baffling. Especially if it's something they want others to read and understand.

Mmm, Bleach. I can't wait for more! And if you haven't seen Frisky Dingo, it's a show you and hubby might get a laugh out of. The complete first season (13 eps total) is posted on youtube.

24 days!

Yeah, I don't get it either. It also kills me that these same stories with bad grammar, retread plotlines, and vapid characterizations, get hundreds of reviews about how wonderful their story is. It boggles the mind, it really does.

I've seen an episode or two of Frisky Dingo, enough to go WTF is this? I saw the one a week or two ago where the big white guy was wandering around the sewers with that other naked guy and they ended up having to fight in a cage match. Definitely wacky. Adult Swim originals are actually not bad. I love Robot Chicken, Moral Orel, Aqua Teen, and Metalocalypse.

I don't read around enough to find them anymore, but I love getting "bad fic" alerts, because sometimes it is just fun to read snippets of a really horrible fic. LOL.

Frisky Dingo is one of those that doesn't come across well if you don't watch the progression. But yeah, the way the "hero" and "villain" end up at that point was insane. It's one of the original A.S. shows I actually tuned in for. :)

I still make the fic rounds, though I've given up on ff.net entirely. It just burns too much. And seriously, what is up with all the Bleach yaoi fics on aff.net? 80% are mpreg! O_o To get me to read an mpreg story, the writer has to really go the distance to make it somewhat believable.

There isn't nearly enough Quincest though. Oh, and I think I figured out why Quincest isn't as icky as most other incest stories. It's the fact that Uryuu calls his father by his first name. Not only is it an act of defiance, but shows the distance between the two. They're almost strangers...almost.
Fran: (Bleach) Rivalfranwi on January 22nd, 2007 09:18 pm (UTC)
Quincest could be good, especially if it involves Ishida finding someone who'll really take care of him. I love the contrast between the father/son relationships with Ishi/Ichi - poor Uryuu.

Gosh I can't believe you haven't read Fruits Basket yet, considering how much you appreciate f-ed up families and angst! LOL

I'm giggling at the thought of a somewhat believable mpreg, though. Do I even want to know who they're knocking up in Bleach ficland? ;)

evilkat_meow: Ishida- Oh noes!evilkat_meow on January 22nd, 2007 09:43 pm (UTC)
Ah, Ishida...the broken ones are always the most interesting. But yes, the differences in the father/son relationships between Ichigo and Uryuu makes their friendship so much more compelling. You know Uryuu won't be able to keep that promise to his father and stay away from Ichigo. I'm also curious to see more of the past relationship between Ryuuken and Isshin.

And oddly enough, it's Ichigo constantly getting knocked up. I would have thought Uryuu with his constant uke-ness would be the mommy, but not in these cases.
Jukeboxjukebox_csi on January 23rd, 2007 03:15 am (UTC)
Ack! I haven't made it that far in the episodes. I'm one of the dweebs watching the new eps each week on the cartoon network LOL. It's only up to the episode where Ichigo is learning how to fight so he can go save whats her name who was taken away by her brother to stand trial...or something. I do like the show. If I had a descent connection, I'd dl'd all the eps and watch them. Maybe I'll see if they're available to rent from Netflix.

What's the other one you gave the screencaps for above? Baka-who?
evilkat_meow: Renji- sexyevilkat_meow on January 23rd, 2007 03:25 am (UTC)
LOL! I would have died if I had to wait each week for the new episodes of Bleach. Too many cliffhangers. And you have a ways to go if he's only up to the training part before the crew and him head into the Soul Society to rescue Rukia. You haven't even had a chance to really meet the uber sexy, tattooed goodness that is Renji.^^

The screen caps are another one of my samurai animes called, Bakumatsu Kikansetsu Irohanihoheto (try saying that 3 times fast!) I call it Bakumatsu for short. It is awesome!
Fran: 11th Div Pride (BLEACH)franwi on January 24th, 2007 03:10 pm (UTC)
Oh man! What a pain, not being able to watch the original Bleach episodes. You're missing out on Renji's growly thug tone, too - which adds to his overall smexiness. He sounds way too mild-mannered so far in the dubs. Bleach could be worth a faster connection, but then there's the whole youtube addiction you'd have to deal with. ;)
Fran: RukiRenji (Bleach)franwi on January 24th, 2007 03:28 pm (UTC)
I'm all sorts of curious about Isshin's past now. I hope eventually we'll get a bit more on that. I kind of love that they're both doctors, too. Ryuuken runs the hospital and Isshin runs his clinic. Again I turn to Bleach Drabbles for some hilarious stories on those two. ;)
evilkat_meow: Ichigoevilkat_meow on January 24th, 2007 10:27 pm (UTC)
Yeah, talk about two people who couldn't more polar opposites then Ryuuken and Isshin, despite the whole doctor thing. And if Isshin is captain level, that explains a whole lot about Ichigo.

On Your Trip To Japan...
Try to find one of those photo sticker booths you two can take a picture in. According to shoujo manga, they're very popular, lol. ;)

Ha! I'm sure they'll be in the arcade, right next to Dance Dance Revolution.
rookafrk on January 25th, 2007 11:25 pm (UTC)
yay ! you're working on P&C !

About spelling and netspeak, I can understand why it freaks you out... But i think that might come from the fact that a lot of online writers are actually not native speakers... I mean, nowadays, to be read on the net, you better write in english otherwise, you won't reach much people. But then when i read fics in french and see how most of them are poorly written (grammatically speaking), it drives me mad too...
But as for what you say, being a non-native speaker or a teen is not good enough an excuse *sighs* I guess most non-native speakers really do their best because it's nice to think that writing in english allows you to be read everywhere in the world ^^
evilkat_meowevilkat_meow on January 26th, 2007 12:03 am (UTC)
I understand the need to want to be read by the biggest audience possible. Who doesn't love getting reviews? My heart warms every time I get one, so I know how addictive it gets. And I commend anyone who attempts to write in a language other than what they were born speaking. Sadly, most of the grammar and spelling atrocities I see in the fanfic world are being committed by native English speakers. That's what saddens me the most. I sometimes get the impression that someone who learned English as a second language takes more care than someone speaking it all their life. There are tons of resources that both side of this equation can fall back on, such a beta readers. I am eternally grateful to my beta for all his help with "P&C" and my other epic story, "Hold Your Light." English is the only language I know and my beta still finds the silliest mistakes ;)

Have you seen 112? I just watched it. I'm on a Bleach high right now, lol. And I SO need Shinji and Hiyori icons now. Waah!

Re: Bleach...
I did! I did! I lurrve bad-ass Isshin. And I lurrved when Uruhara showed up and asked him if he had sufficiently avenged his wife. Much, much lurrve! And for some reason, Shinji's teeth bother me. It must be because they're so detailed. I'm weird like that. LOL! I also have to admit there was a moment of Quincest squeeing when Uryuu showed up in Ryuuken's office at the end.

Re: Bleach...
I love how it went from somber to funny/crazy/noisy to somber again at the end, it was just such a good episode. Love that Isshin was able to take down that particular hollow. The fact that he said he didn't hold a grudge against it but only wishes he could have protected his wife from it, really reveals his noble shinigami side.

I really like how they're keeping the mods on in the manga storyline, just observing and commenting, not entangling them in it.

I think my favorite part was Hiyori. I love her brash attitude and the fact that she wants to kill Orihime (even though I like Orihime!) It seemed like she attempted, for a second, to interact with Inoue and Chad, but her long-standing animosity towards humans quickly dissolved her civility. Just their names pissed her off, lol. I really loved the part where Hiyori calms down as Shinji's carrying her, and reasserts her hatred of both humans and shinigami. It made me wonder what sort of incidents might have sculpted her sense of resentment.

AND YESSSSSSS - that last father/son scene had such an underlying vibe to it - very Quincesty! LOL. I also like the fact that Ishida would rather give in to his father's unreasonable demands than become a useless liability to his friends. I don't, however, believe he's abandoning them. ;)
