Oh my stars and garters....
Saw X-men: The Last Stand today...

I was not thrilled by it, but I didn't hate it.  It was definitely not as good as the other two.  The story in this one was so...almost not a story if that makes any sense.  The acting wasn't that great either.  They gave Storm a bigger part.  In fact, she was the second lead next to logan, but she sucked.  She spent the entire movie lecturing Wolverine.  But I think the worst part of the movie was how they explained the Phoenix powers.  Now, I understand that they can't do the whole Phoenix Saga and introducing the Shi'ar Empire may not translate well on the big screen, but what they did was lame.  As well all know, Jean is an incredibly powerful mutant.  The movie explained that because of the strain of her powers, her personality split in two- the Jean we all know and love and the agenda of rage, Phoenix.  Hella lame if you ask me.

Now onto the storyline.  The mutant cure.  This was apparently obtained from the DNA of a young mutant boy (who we never get a name for and who, despite being bald, was a very beautiful boy...and I don't mean it in a pedophile sense.  Jeesh.)  who has the ability to cancel out any mutant powers.  Warren Worthington II, Angel's dad, is the one heading the research on that after he finds his young son trying to shave off his wings when they began to sprout.   This spurs Magneto into action and he rallies his Brotherhood to storm the lab (located on Alcatraz)  James Marsden gets like 3 minutes in the movie.  Enough time for Jean to call him back to the base in Alaska and kill him off.   Stormy and Wolive bring her back to the mansion only she's the Phoenix now.  Blah, blah...battle...blah, blah, cool special effects...blah, blah, Wolverine is forced to kill Jean.   There you go.  The story in a super nutshell.  Obviously there were more little subplots, but I'm not going into all that.

Here's some things I liked:
1- Fastball special.  I giggled with glee when I saw that.
2- Hank Mccoy saying "Oh my stars and garters"
3- Angel's wings.  We all know how I love the wings^^

Somethings I didn't like:
!- Callisto.  Don't get me wrong, she was cool in the movie, but they never say her name so you have no clue who she is.  And there is no mention of the Morlocks.
2- Juggernaut- He was kinda cool, but not really necessary.
3- Psylocke.  I saw her name in the credits and was like "where the hell was she?"  I didn't see her.
4- Scott, Jean, and Professor X all dead.  Of course, that means nothing, but still...

There is more I could go on about, but I'll leave something for you guys out there to discover for yourselves.  Oh and stick around after the credits.  There's a surprise!

We also saw the trailers for Superman and Ghost Rider...both look awesome.  I heard about Ghost Rider damn near 2 years ago and hoped that it wouldn't look lame on the big screen.  It doesn't and Nick Cage looks good as our flaming skull of justice^^

Blah, blah...battle...blah, blah, cool special effects...blah, blah, Wolverine is forced to kill Jean. There you go. Haha! XP That's actually a surprisingly accurate way of putting it! LOL! Ya know...and also leaves out the expletives in the middle... ^__*

I think the writer and the director left out a whole bunch of stuff in the middle too....something called a plot. There was something vaguely plot-like, but I think it got covered over by the awesome spectical of Magneto moving the entire Golden Gate Bridge. Now, was that really necessary? *sigh*

I'm planning to see it this weekend...if nothing else than to see what the heck this surprise at the end is. It's all I hear about on boards ("you MUST stay to see the surprise at the end" etc etc). :^D I already thought the movie sucked before I even saw it because it doesn't have Gambit in it. And, well I just love me some Cajun Spice. But WOW! I had no idea that Cyclops, Prof, AND Jean were all killed. I mean, I knew someone got killed cause I saw of pic somewhere on the net of a funeral scene. But still....

I wonder if they'll have a 4th movie? And if they do, I wonder if they'll wise the hell up and put Gambit in it (and for more than 2 seconds)?

I do hope that they do another movie. What's good about the X-Men franchise is that they can rotate new characters in and old characters out and have it still be a decent movie. As much as I love Gambit and would love to have him in the next movie, I fear what they could do to him. I don't know about you, but I was a bit dismayed that they gave Rogue a name in the movies. We've only been waiting what? forever in the comics for her real name. Imagine the artistic license havok they could reek on our boy. *pets pretty cajun*

But the new movie isn't completely dreadful, but there is tons wrong with it. We shall have to commiserate as one fan to another after you see it^^
