Just when I thought I was out...they pull me back in
Just got back from the dentist for what was supposed to be my final visit.  Guess who has to go back?  Apparently the permanent crown needs to be re-sized so that the gap between the tooth next to it isn't too big.  ARGH!!!!  At least it will be a quick visit next time.  Poor hubbie had 4 cavities filled.  The entire right side of his face is still numb.  I'm trying to be supportive when I'm not giggling at his slurred speech.

Look in your inbox, presser_kun, the next chapter of Light is waiting for you.

Since I've had time to reflect.  Here are my thoughts on the finale of Blood+

It was perfect.  I had pretty much figured that Diva would die and Kai would end up raising the twins, being that they were part Riku and all, but I was completely surprised that no one died.  I thought for sure that Davd wasn't going to make it.  I was also afraid that Haji, being the one to sacrifice anything for Saya, wouldn't make it either, but they both survived.  I absolutely loved the epilogue where Kai takes the girls to the tomb and finds the rose with Haji's hair ribbon on it.  Simply beautiful.

I must give kudos to the writers for not doing the WTF? ending and giving everything a nice, logical conclusion with just enough left open to keep us wondering.  How exactly did Nathan survive and what does he have planned?  I heard that there may be 2 OVAs which I'm sure will deal with this question.  I imagine he wants the girls and will lay low until they're older.  I rewatched the first 3 episodes today just to remind myself of how it all began and realized that there was something missing from the later episodes- Haji playing the cello.  The last time I can recall him playing was on the ship shortly before Riku was killed.  I like to imagine him visiting the tomb and playing to Saya while she sleeps, waiting for the day she awakens.  Oh!  Plot bunny attack!  But damn, Haji was so sexy when he played.  I've always thought the cello was a sexy instrument.  The way you hold it between your legs and wrap your body around it....very sensual.

So, the ride has come to an end.  I thoroughly enjoyed it, even when it felt like my heart was being torn out of my chest.  George, Riku, The Shiff, they all made me cry when they died, but that's how I know when something is good.  If the characters are real enough to cause that kind of reaction, then I know I've invested my time well.

The floor is now open for anyone who would like to discuss it.  I know I'm leaving out a ton of stuff, but this anime really is far too deep for me to sum up in a few short paragraphs.

Time to get back to my ficathon stories...

Cringing at the dentist stuff - yuck!

OMG Blood+

I love your comments! They HAVE to do OVAs on this series!

I also thought there would be major death on the way before it all ended. I was so happy that Lulu made it - but man, most of my crying was done over the Schiff.

I like to imagine him visiting the tomb and playing to Saya while she sleeps, waiting for the day she awakens.

WOW. That's such a beautiful image and sentiment. Poor Haji, waiting out the years on his own in endless, sleepless existence. Wonder what he really does during that time. I was actually on-edge near the end, wondering if it would be revealed that Haji's true feelings for Saya were not fond ones. He seemed loyal and protective, but I feared there could be hatred beneath it all for what he became because of Saya - especially when he meant to keep that promise to her. I can still imagine it's quite a struggle for him. (Reminds me a little of that Mirage of Blaze relationship, where we discovered unresolved feelings and issues and betrayals that took place over the centuries.)

How exactly did Nathan survive and what does he have planned? I heard that there may be 2 OVAs which I'm sure will deal with this question. I imagine he wants the girls and will lay low until they're older.

LOVE the assumption that he's going to go after the girls. I actually liked Nathan by the end. And yes, my question was about NATHAN and how he showed up later. But now that I've thought about it, he did tease Amshel with the possibility of a Chevalier from Saya and Diva's mother surviving. I think his reappearance proves he's from a former generation. Neither Diva or Saya's blood could affect him. He went through the motions of pretending to be Diva's Chevalier, and then surrendering his existence to Saya - so she wouldn't sense any further threat from him, and now he's laying in wait. So cool!

I still miss Riku. And I can't believe at the end I shed a tear for Diva dying alone, having longed for a family of her own. Damn them for making me feel for her! I rewatched that moment a LOT - so heartbreaking to see Saya plead with Diva to take her with her.

Adored Kai and the girls at the very end, and the fact that they call him "Kai" hee. The twins seem to be getting along - so far! I wonder if they have to go through transfusions the way Saya did.

It's definitely a series that would inspire plot bunnies, with all the possibilities and questions it leaves. I certainly hope to see an OVA or two!

Yay! It was an excellent anime! Thanks for turning me on to it!!

Dentist = ick...I can't believe I have to go back again. But anyway...

He seemed loyal and protective, but I feared there could be hatred beneath it all for what he became because of Saya - especially when he meant to keep that promise to her

Ya know, I never got that feeling from him, but that is an interesting idea. After all, I imagine Haji knew (after he was older) that he was meant to be mated with either of the girls. Amshel does specifically mention Diva, but Joel had him be Saya's pal so who knows? Knowing that was his lot in life may have formed some resentment, but I believe Haji was in love with Saya long before she made him her chevalier.

he did tease Amshel with the possibility of a Chevalier from Saya and Diva's mother surviving. I think his reappearance proves he's from a former generation. Neither Diva or Saya's blood could affect him.

OMG! I never even thought of that! That's brilliant. You're probably right. It makes total sense. Nathan was always the most protective of Diva. He could even be Saya and Diva's father if he was the girl's mother's twin's chevalier (gosh that's a mouthful.)

As for the new queens, (don't you hate that we never get to see them or find out their names?) I wonder if they will eventually fight so that only one queen remains. I think that unless its some inborn instinct, they will stay close. Diva and Saya would have been close had Joel and Amshel not busted out their test tubes and made them into expariments, IMHO.

And The Schiff....I loved them so much. *weeps* They rocked. I loved, loved, loved Moses. I loved Moses and Karman, cuz dammit, every anime needs a blatant yaoi couple and they were it. Karman reminded me of a bad-ass Michael Lee. ;)

So, keep your fingers crossed for those OVAs. I want to see older Kai real bad....mmmmm, sexy. And of couse, Haji. I just realized that its possible that his arm and wing didn't regenerate...that would be a travesty. They had too, Haji is far too beautiful to mar like that.^^

Ooooh! That would be a twist! A creepy twist, but still exciting. He even stepped in to protect Saya once or twice. I do wonder what he's up to.

I believe Haji was in love with Saya long before she made him her chevalier.

Yeah, I definitely think he loved her, but I was concerned that over the years, and his time left alone to contemplate his existence, that love might have twisted into a darker sentiment. I could still see that happening, if he can't be the one who makes her smile.

I do wonder what might spark a rivalry between the new queens. I think Kai will have his hands full trying to keep sisterly quarrels from turning into the next threat against mankind, lol! Let's just hope they don't fall for the same boy. ;)

Man, when Moses went out with Karman - that was heart-wrenching.

Karman reminded me of a bad-ass Michael Lee. ;)

OMG! Cracking up. Just strip away the keyboard, give them both black cloaks and weaponry, and they're indistinguishable! LOL.

They'd better let Haji regenerate those lost limbs! I can't see why he wouldn't. Man, he sure does go through a hellalotta hurt in the series. He needs some lovin'!

Older Kai - I seriously keep trying to picture that. I can't wait either! :)

Gah! The yaoi plot bunnies are working overtime. I'm having visions of Kai keeping Haji company for those long years until Saya wakes up. Oh, the pretties....*takes deep breath*

Yeah, they both fall for David and Julia's kid...if it happens to be a boy. LOL.

And seriously, did Haji get impaled in some manner in EVERY episode? I think he did. He managed to grab his arm right before they nuked Lincoln Center. Oddly enough, being the native New Yorker that I am, I was impressed by how accurate Lincoln Center looked. They even had the swirling staircases and crazy chandliers in the Met. Too bad it had to go to save the world from the hoard of youkshuu. The rest of NY was a bit inaccurate. Streets are rarely as deserted as they portrayed at times and that apartment they were in, if it was anywhere near Lincoln Center, it would have cost them $50,000 a month in rent...easy. But I digress...where was I going with this?

I could see Haji resenting Kai's ability to brighten Saya's life, and that underlying emotion boiling into something more lustful in his solitary days. A rather unexpected encounter one night at her tomb, perhaps? ;)

Oh, don't laugh - that will probably be OVA #1. Queen-teen angst!

And seriously, did Haji get impaled in some manner in EVERY episode?

YES. Unfortunately not in every manner, though. Hee.

You know I had a thing for Solomon, too. He reminded me of Tamaki from Ouran somehow. I still don't quite follow how he perished - did he just overabuse his power after such a great blood loss? It was sad the way he defended her then left before Saya could see his demise. "Whenever you need me, just call my name..." Sigh. I enjoy the bad-boys-gone-good.

I'm a Great Lakes gal, but even I noticed that something wasn't quite right with those empty streets! LOL. And the fact that crazy stuff was happening around that apartment and none of the neighbors were calling the cops. Maybe Joel managed to come up with enough money to buy out the whole city block.

I wonder how long Lulu will survive now. I definitely hope she makes it to the OVA!

OH!!! And how fun was it to see crazy-bratty-stalker-girl hook up with the photo journalist! I knew that was coming. They were really great for each other. I hope we find out more about what happened with them as well. Probably off uncovering more government/military conspiracies, no doubt.

YES. Unfortunately not in every manner, though. Hee.

Just not the manner that WE wanted. *sigh*

Solomon was pure bish, you had to appreciate it. The scene where he's chained up and Nathan runs his hand down his chest...GAH!!! Smexy! Bondage! Anyway, Saya was the one that actually did him in in the end- accidental, of course. When he jumps in to save her, he accidently nicks himself on the shoulder with her sword. Even if he was at his best, he still would have perished.

I'm sure Lulu will make it into the OVA, if there is one. The rest of the gang too...well, the ones that won't have died.

OMG! :(

How did I miss that? When Amshel took a look at his shoulder, I couldn't figure out what was happening - or WHY it was happening. So sad. Damn. That's tragic. It makes me miss him all the more. He tried to pursue his dream - to serve Saya and stay by her side. Tried and failed. Waaaah!

Of course Riku's still my most missed character. And yet some awesomeness came out of losing him.
evilkat_meowevilkat_meow on September 29th, 2006 02:07 am (UTC)
Okay, I just rewatched that part and the other chevalier got a hold of Saya's sword and nicked Solomon in the shoulder when he deflected. So, it wasn't exactly Saya's fault.

Rikuuuuuuuuuu!!!! *weeps* So sad. It was such a horrible way to die too.

I have a present for you!
http://storeandserve.com/download/449582/BLOOD_kisaragi_hirotaka_.zip.html

From here you can download the raw of the Blood+ manga City of the Nightwalkers. The scan group, No Deadline, has scantilated up to chapter 4, but this is the whole volume...raw. Yet another reason to get on IRC^^ The manga takes place in Hong Kong in the late 80's before Saya wakes up after Vietnam and centers around Haji. It's by the same managaka as Innocent Bird and holy shit is it gorgeous. It's not yaoi, but it sure wants to be and its delightfully shonen ai. There are moments of pure, nosebleed inducing Haji prettiness. Enjoy!

OMG!
Thank you thank you thank you!!

It's still downloading now - took me a while to get through those busy servers! Yay!!

Re: OMG!
I only wish I could send you the scans so you know what's going on. But damn do I love Kisaragi Hirotaka....so pretty. Enjoy!
Fran: Haji (Blood+)franwi on October 1st, 2006 04:49 pm (UTC)
So pretty - yes.
I'm savoring, so I haven't finished it yet - but half-naked Haji, Haji reluctantly eating a meal, and Haji LICKING another man... it's more than I could have dreamed! Hee. The artwork is amazing.
