I feel so appreciated...
It was "Employee Appreciation Day" at work today. I think I may have done 30 minutes of actual work. The rest of the time I spent gambling. That's right, gambling. It was Las Vegas themed so they had tables set up for us to play Blackjack, Let it Ride, and Roulette. We were all given $1000 in chips, but all the tables had a $25 minimum! I guess they were trying to get as close to real Vegas betting as they could ;P I lost $200 on Roulette and then "cashed in." We were given raffle tickets instead of money to try and win a number of gift certificates for various places like Home Depot or Best Buy. We'll see if I won anything tomorrow.

Japan has educational videos for everything. Put your speakers on and check out this one. I don't know what to make of this, but all I know is that it had me howling...howling with laughter. As an American, should I be offended? Nah...it was too damn funny to take offense to.

Scary? They only thing that was scary was the fact that they needed to make a video on what to do if you get mugged by an American. Other than that, it was fucking hi-larious.

Wow, that sounds like a good day at work! Hope you won a little something. Being a branch division, we're pretty much ignored when it comes to employee appreciation. That's why I don't feel so bad when I make my up own perks, lol. I'm the only one left in this division, other than an outside salesman who might come in once a week for a couple hours. We used to have six employees, and now it's just me doing everything. It fluctuates between insanely busy and boring as hell.

That video... omg. I thought it was going to be some instruction on self-defense - not complete submission! *banging head against desk* That's just soooo wrong. I wasn't so offended as concerned for any Japanese woman who finds herself being accosted like that and screams out, "Take anything you want!" Yeah, that's probably not going to go over very well for her. >:(

Well, that's when the "spare me my life" chant will come in handy. And WTF was up with that one guy's bandana? That was more of a 'what to do if you get mugged by accountants who speak slowly and wear bandanas the wrong way' instructional video.

And I won nothing in all of the raffles :( I have no luck for such things.

Wow, you won nothing?! That's just wrong. Did they at least force you to make up all the work you couldn't get done yesterday due to their "appreciation?" LOL. Now it's sounding a little more like my company. ;)

The bandana thing is hysterical, and the chanting aerobics instructors. Only part I wasn't cringing at was the cute cop. *cues porno music* I definitely fear for anyone who watches that with the intent of learning something useful, let alone life-saving.

I wish it was subtitled. Perhaps it was meant to be taken as a joke, but I get this feeling that it wasn't and that just makes it funnier. I cracked myself up everytime I thought of it today. It was just so random and strange.

And I've been with the company 6 years and have never won anything...EVER!!! No free turkey at Thanksgiving, no box of chocolates on Valentine's Day...nothing!!! *sigh* It's the story of my life.

One year (back when our division participated in corporate sponsored events) I won our safety slogan award - $100 Target gift card - which was nice. But I felt a bit bad about it, because the week before I hit the main warehouse heating unit with the forklift and sent the whole thing crashing down! Hee. Good thing it was a slogan contest and not an actual safety award. ;)

Messenger Boy
Lucky you. The best I've ever gotten for employee appreciation was a can of pop on my break. I don't even get discounts... why do the elders seem to get the best of life? >_

Re: Messenger Boy
No employee discounts? That's hella lame. And believe me, it's not just the elders that are getting the best in life.
