Q & A time
Today I received the following review for my Gundam 00 story, Solitary Pisces:

I know I reviewed this back in FF.net, but now I have a question: why Allelujah? I was actually expecting either Setsuna or even Feldt...

I liked how you drew out the connection and distant relationship Lyle and Neil had. And that "buzz..." could it be that Lyle's been part of Celestial Being all along without him knowing it? Is Lyle's true purpose (besides being Sunrise's scapegoat) is to be the 2nd Lockon?

I know this may sound weird, but I would very much like to know more of your speculation on Lyle & Neil -- and yes, unmarred by possible season two revelations.

This story, as all my stories, are left up to the reader to take whatever they will and interpret any way they see fit.   Why Allelujah?  Why indeed.  You are correct that many of the other characters could easily have taken his place in this story.  Feldt because of her crush, Teria because of his guilt over Lockon's self-sacrifice, not sure if I would put Setsuna there, but it is possible.  So, why Allelujah?  In all honesty, I wanted to write an Lockon/Alle fic.  As I turned the idea over and over in my head to come up with something new and different, I watched the episode where Lockon dies.  I wouldn't say that put a kabosh on my plans, but it did set me on a different train of thought.  It became obvious to me that the writers of the show introduced Lockon's twin as a means to replace his brother.  Am I happy with this idea?  Absolutely not.  It reeks of a bad plot device to me.  They've successfully created angst, but filled the empty space with someone who looks exactly like the person killed off.  The only thing I could compare this to would be if they gave Lockon amnesia.  That's uncreative, lazy writing in my book.  And let's face it, its not like we haven't seen this played to death in the Gundam franchise.

But I digress.  So, now I began thinking about how Lockon's brother, who they made clear wasn't involved in his life in any way, would come to be inducted into Celestial Being.  One of the more logical thoughts I had was that he was recruited by one of the other pilots.  And thus, my story was born.  The first draft had more allusions to a Lockon/Alle relationship with Allelujah even telling Lyle that he was his brother's lover, but as I wrote, it just didn't meld, so most of it was removed.  I left things vague on purpose for the reader to decide on their own.  If they want to believe there was a past relationship, then there was.  As for Lyle and Neil's past relationship, we know it was strained, I just came up with my own thoughts as to what I thought was the reason and their own reactions to it.  Do I think CB secretly recruited Lyle without him knowing?  No.  But I do think that they may have been keeping tabs on him as they would with the other meisters if they had any family to keep tabs on.   Perhaps the news of his brother's death was the push he needed to join...or maybe its something more.  We'll see in October!

I hope that is a satisfactory answer to your question.  Feel free to comment with your own thoughts.  I can talk about this stuff all day.^^

In other news, some mofo spammer is using my email address as a return address and my inbox is quite literally exploding with undeliverable messages.  As of right now, I've deleted no less than 500 emails.  If I ever find the bastard, I'm going to go to work on him with a blowtorch and a pair of pliers.

Hey evilkat! This is Cielo from ff.net/Mechaphiles. ^^ Thank you so much for replying to my review and setting light to what brought the fic about.

I would have to agree with you on the "all too convenient" character REplacement. It's almost like rehashing episode 23 through a flashback and actually saying, "Oh! Lockon survived -- look! CB found him floating behind an asteroid!" I've surrendered myself to the fact that the character I've grown to love, specifically Lockon-Neil is DEAD. Then pictures popping up of Lockon-Lyle makes me feel a bit insulted -- with nary a change in appearance, with the same seiyuu. Season Two hasn't even started yet, but I'm in an "I don't even wanna know" mode on Lockon. And I don't think I'll like this Lockon as much as I did the old one.

I was pondering more on Setsuna or Grace as they were the youngest of the crew and to me, they looked to Lockon as an older brother/father figure. My vouch for Setsuna's also driven by the "main character flashback" and his cry of pain upon Lockon's death (which sent chills down my spine and almost got me crying as well ^^;.)

It was a very interesting read. Have you considered doing a side-story -- Allelujah POV perhaps?

You're welcome^^

I'm willing to bet that when we are finally formally introduced to Lyle, we're going to find that he has the opposite personality of Neil. He'll probably be standoffish and not very friendly. The writers will have to do something that drastic to set him apart from Neil. I'm with you, I probably won't be liking the "new" Lockon as much as the old one.

As for a side story...we'll see. The thought crossed my mind for a continuation where Lyle and Alle hook up to try and recover some small piece of Neil through each other. Considering how badly my other stories are languishing away in Limbo, its not likely to happen anytime soon.
